01 - 1 large round sourdough loaf (approximately 1 pound)

→ Vegetables

02 - 1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and excess moisture removed
03 - 1 cup canned or jarred artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
04 - 1 clove garlic, minced

→ Dairy & Cheese

05 - 1 cup cream cheese, softened to room temperature
06 - 1/2 cup sour cream
07 - 1/4 cup mayonnaise
08 - 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
09 - 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

→ Seasonings

10 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
11 - 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
12 - 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F for baking.
02 - Slice off the top portion of the sourdough loaf. Remove the soft interior bread, maintaining a 1-inch thick shell. Set aside the removed bread pieces for dipping.
03 - Combine cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, mozzarella, and Parmesan in a mixing bowl. Whisk until completely smooth and uniform.
04 - Fold in spinach, artichoke hearts, garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix thoroughly to distribute ingredients evenly.
05 - Transfer the mixture into the hollowed bread cavity. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet.
06 - Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the dip is heated through, bubbling, and the surface develops a light golden color.
07 - During the final 10 minutes of baking, arrange the reserved bread pieces around the bowl for toasting.
08 - Remove from oven and serve hot. Accompany with toasted bread pieces for dipping.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The bread bowl gets all golden and crispy while staying tender inside
  • You can scoop out the soft bread as you eat, making every bite better than the last
  • This feeds a crowd and looks impressive with almost zero extra work
02 -
  • Squeezing every drop of water from the spinach is non negotiable, I learned this the hard way with a watery dip
  • The bread bowl needs that 1 inch thick shell or it will collapse under the weight of the filling
  • Let the cream cheese soften completely or you will end up with lumpy pockets in your dip
03 -
  • Use a serrated bread knife and saw gently to avoid tearing the crust when hollowing
  • Place the bread bowl on a rimmed baking sheet to catch any cheese overflow
