Sweet Hawaiian rolls layered with melted cheddar, brushed with butter and baked until golden and gooey.

# What You Need:

→ Bread & Dairy

01 - 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
02 - 8 oz cheddar cheese, sliced
03 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

→ Optional Flavor Boosters

04 - 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
05 - 1 tbsp mayonnaise
06 - 1 tsp garlic powder
07 - 1 tsp dried parsley

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Without separating the rolls, slice the whole block of Hawaiian rolls horizontally to create a top and bottom half.
03 - If using, whisk together Dijon mustard and mayonnaise. Spread evenly onto the cut sides of the rolls.
04 - Layer cheddar cheese evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Place the top half over the cheese to reassemble.
05 - Place assembled rolls onto prepared baking sheet. Brush tops generously with melted butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder and dried parsley, if desired.
06 - Cover loosely with foil and bake for 10 minutes.
07 - Remove foil and bake an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and tops are golden.
08 - Let rest 2 minutes, then cut apart into 12 mini sandwiches. Serve warm.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The sweet rolls create a perfect flavor balance that makes people wonder what your secret ingredient is
  • They reheat beautifully so you can make them ahead and still serve them warm and melty
  • Kids and adults alike grab these before anything else on the party table
02 -
  • Don't try to separate the rolls before slicing or you'll spend twice as much time assembling them
  • The foil step is non-negotiable if you want the cheese completely melted without burning the tops
  • Letting them rest for 2 minutes seems pointless but the cheese will ooze out everywhere if you cut them immediately
03 -
  • Use a serrated knife in a gentle sawing motion to get through the rolls without squishing them
  • Room temperature cheese slices melt more evenly than cold ones straight from the fridge
