Mini Grilled Cheese Hawaiian Rolls (Printable)

Soft Hawaiian rolls filled with cheddar, browned butter, baked or pan-grilled until golden and gooey.

# What You Need:

→ Bread and Dairy

01 - 12 Hawaiian rolls
02 - 6 slices cheddar cheese, halved
03 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

→ Optional Add-Ons

04 - 6 slices Swiss cheese, halved
05 - 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
06 - 1 tablespoon chopped chives or parsley

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F or heat a large skillet over medium-low heat.
02 - Keeping the Hawaiian rolls connected, slice horizontally to create a top and bottom slab.
03 - Arrange the bottom slab on a cutting board. Evenly layer cheddar and optional Swiss cheese over the rolls. Place the top slab over the cheese.
04 - Spread softened butter evenly on the top and bottom exterior of the assembled rolls.
05 - For skillet: Place entire sandwich slab in the pan and grill 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until crisp and cheese is melted. For oven: Transfer buttered rolls to a baking dish and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until cheese is gooey and rolls are golden.
06 - Remove from heat, let cool slightly, then cut or pull apart into 12 mini sandwiches.
07 - Optionally brush tops with Dijon mustard and sprinkle with chives or parsley before serving.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • You can make these in minutes, and nobody ever suspects how easy they are until you confess.
  • The combination of sweet, soft rolls and gooey cheese makes every bite feel like a little celebration.
02 -
  • If you rush and the pan is too hot, the rolls brown before the cheese melts—so patience pays off.
  • Letting the assembled rolls sit for a minute before cutting keeps the cheese from oozing out too soon.
03 -
  • Pressing down lightly with a spatula while toasting helps the cheese glue everything together.
  • Letting the rolls rest for 2-3 minutes after cooking keeps the cheese from spilling everywhere when you cut.
