Simple Doritos Taco Salad (Printable)

Crunchy Doritos and seasoned beef over romaine with tomatoes, cheddar and ranch for a quick Tex-Mex bowl.

# What You Need:

→ Meats

01 - 1 pound ground beef

→ Seasonings

02 - 1 packet taco seasoning (about 1 ounce)
03 - 1/4 cup water

→ Vegetables

04 - 1 head romaine lettuce, chopped
05 - 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
06 - 1/2 cup red onion, diced
07 - 1 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
08 - 1 cup canned corn, drained

→ Cheese

09 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

→ Chips

10 - 2 cups Nacho Cheese Doritos, slightly crushed

→ Dressing

11 - 1/2 cup ranch dressing or Catalina dressing

# Directions:

01 - In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until fully browned. Drain any excess fat.
02 - Add taco seasoning and water to the skillet. Stir to combine, then simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the beef mixture is thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
03 - In a large salad bowl, combine chopped romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, diced red onion, black beans, corn, and shredded cheddar cheese.
04 - Spoon the slightly cooled taco beef over the salad mixture.
05 - Just before serving, add the crushed Doritos and your chosen dressing to the bowl. Gently toss until all ingredients are evenly coated and mixed.
06 - Serve the salad right away while the Doritos are still crisp.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The contrast of cool, crisp lettuce and warm taco beef is pure comfort, especially when Doritos are involved.
  • It’s a no-fuss meal that always disappears quickly—bonus points if you love a little Tex-Mex flair on busy nights.
02 -
  • I learned the hard way: if you add Doritos too soon they turn soggy and sad, so wait until the very last moment.
  • Letting the beef cool just a little before tossing keeps the lettuce from wilting.
03 -
  • If your beef cools too long and clumps up, microwave it for a few seconds with a splash of water before adding.
  • The real secret: layer Doritos in the middle of the salad as well as on top for extra bites of crunch throughout.
